Mrs. Karimi Nthiga
Regional Coordinator for Africa, Microinsurance Network
Karimi Nthiga is the Regional Coordinator for Africa at the Microinsurance Network, a member-based non-profit dedicated to advancing inclusive insurance. In her role, she leads member engagement and fosters institutional partnerships in Africa and supports the implementation of the Network’s annual Landscape of Inclusive Insurance study.
Karimi brings extensive experience in the financial inclusion sector, where she has worked with a range of organizations to understand consumer behavior, co-design tailored products, and test interventions that drive the uptake, usage, and retention of financial and insurance services.
Her work is driven by a passion for leveraging research and innovation to address the barriers vulnerable populations face in accessing digital and financial services—including insurance. With a solid background in Economics and behavioral science, Karimi has led cross-sectoral research initiatives across Africa. Her projects span digital health, risk and resilience, gender dynamics in digital financial services, agriculture, and more.
Within the Microinsurance Network, she also co-chairs the global Making Insurance Work for Smallholder Farmers (SHF) Best Practice Group and coordinates the gender and insurance working group. In both roles, she facilitates knowledge sharing and learning sessions among members and the broader inclusive insurance ecosystem.
