Before joining Prudential Zenith Life, Funmi was the pioneer Managing Director of Enterprise Life Assurance Nigeria, where she led the company for five transformative years. Under her leadership, Enterprise Life Nigeria became a trailblazer in leveraging innovative digital solutions to drive insurance adoption and deepen market penetration. Her legacy at Enterprise Life includes building a robust, customer-centric organization that has become synonymous with innovation and inclusion in the life insurance space.
A passionate advocate for financial inclusion, Funmi believes that insurance should be an indispensable component of every financial plan. Her involvement as a member of the Governing Council of both the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) and the Nigerian Insurers Association, where she serves as Chairman of the Education Committee (CIIN) and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Life Insurance (NIA), as well as her role as a member of the Nigerian Insurance Industry AfCTA Committee, highlights her enduring influence in shaping the future of the industry.
Before her tenure at Enterprise Life, Funmi spent a significant part of her career at African Alliance Insurance Plc, where she played a pivotal role in transforming the organization. Appointed as Managing Director in 2017, she led African Alliance Plc into the digital era, creating new avenues for growth and sustainability. Her forward-thinking initiatives included launching microinsurance as a strategic business unit and expanding the company’s annuity product line, catapulting African Alliance into a top three market player. Notably, she also pioneered the development of Takaful products, establishing African Alliance Plc as Nigeria’s first Family Takaful Office.
Funmi’s penchant for excellence extends beyond her professional roles. She is an alumna of the China European International Business School and the Lagos Business School. A chartered insurer, she is an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute, London, an Associate of the Certified Pensions Institute (Nigeria), an Associate of the Nigerian Institute of Management, and an Associate of the Institute of Directors (IOD).
In addition to her leadership roles in the insurance sector, she has served on numerous boards, including the Ajaokuta Steel Complex, Axiom Air, the National Iron Ore Mining Company (NIOMCO), and PAL Pensions.
Funmi is passionate about giving back to society. She is an active board member of the Freedom Foundation, an organization committed to empowering the less privileged. Through the Funmi Omo Foundation, she empowers underprivileged girls to achieve their educational dreams, believing education is a critical pathway to a brighter future.
